Maria's kitchen reopened Tuesday.

Eleven months after the flood, the community kitchen on Delridge is serving again, four hundred meals a week, run mostly by volunteers who used to eat there themselves. Your gift covered the stove, the walk-in cooler, and six weeks of the electric bill while the doors were closed.

"I used to eat here when I had nowhere else. Now I run the Tuesday shift. That is the part people do not see in a donation receipt."

The roof is the last piece. A $25 gift covers one week of the kitchen's electric bill outright, and every dollar past that goes straight to the contractor's estimate.
